From Values To Vision With UAB’s Mark Ingram

Guest Mark Ingram, UAB
21:04 watch

UAB Associate Vice President and Director of Athletics Mark Ingram sits down with ADU’s Tai M. Brown at the 2025 NACDA Convention to offer insight into how he’s translated his core values into actionable vision for the Blazers. Ingram: “When I got the job, which I basically got because nobody else wanted it, and all my mentors said, ‘Don’t go there, that’s a career-ending job, don’t do it.’ But that was the opportunity – to go fix that and change [it]. It was the right time. Identifying what are those things that need to be done was incredibly easy.”

Ingram and Brown connect Ingram’s passion for service with his three values for the department – winning championships, graduating with honors and making a difference – and how the Blazers have tapped into those values to attract resources for facilities enhancements in an effort to propel key programs forward.

  • - Introduce yourself with a core value and a strength and how you've integrated those into your vision at UAB.
  • - How do those core values intertwine with your personal core values?
  • - Service to people and passion - tie those to something you've accomplished at UAB.
  • - It's almost like this was an undervalued property - UAB as a whole - and then you have someone who's been there as long as you have realize the value of the property. When you start putting dollar amounts on some of the things you've accomplished, it's crazy. Talk to me about that.
  • - The hospital is a huge part of the university; does Athletics tie into it too?
  • - Are the athletic trainers and mental health providers tied in as well?
  • - Did that exist when you arrived?
